WordPress Upgrade August 19, 2008

Posted by hide in : infra, tech , add a comment

Just completed a WordPress upgrade. Please check your blogs and get back to me if you find any issues.

This was a pretty major upgrade, and you’ll likely notice a lot of changes on the admin panel.

Thanks!

In case you ever wondered how the sackheads nameserver.net setup works so beautifully, Ian recently documented the hell out of it.

Haybaler moving again April 4, 2008

Posted by jpayne in : infra , add a comment

Apologies for the late notice, but come this Sunday, haybaler is once more on the move.  Not going too far this time, just 12 miles to an actual datacenter in Boston. Downtime will be on the order of an hour or two assuming all goes to plan.

SackSummit 8 – June 28th, Raleigh, NC April 2, 2008

Based on the current consensus, SackSummit 8 will be held on the weekend of June 28th in the Raleigh, NC area. More details are available on the Summit wiki page and in #sackheads.

Any objections to the date should be made ASAP!

SackVPN mods February 7, 2008

Posted by scromp in : infra, tech , add a comment

If you are a SackVPN user, you can now also use transpontine.scromp.net:22 as a server to get around even more draconian firewalls.. To get there, you may need to have your netblock added to our firewall, or use ipscromp, but that is just a minor detail.

All you need to do is change the ‘remote’ line in your sackvpn.conf

Update: This also runs on :443 now, with no firewalling.

Summits don’t plan themselves… November 7, 2007

Just a friendly reminder to everyone about the Summit page on the Sack wiki:

http://wiki.sackheads.org/index.php/Summits

There are sub-pages here for each summit (including Summit 8, which is still being planned).  There’s also an “Ideas” page here for listing/discussing any ideas for future summit locations.

Please feel free to add to these pages as you see fit!

More Lendables Info October 2, 2007

Some follow-up info about Lendables for those interested:

First, I fixed the permissions problem that was preventing you from actually posting to the sub-albums. Oops, sorry!

Second, here is the list of who currently has access to the Lexington album. If you aren’t on the list and want to be, or if you want a new city created, let me know: chime, dbday, elric, scromp, shanon, snadra, squatch, tjdotson

Third, I am looking into setting up RSS feeds, but they appear to be complicated within gallery, so I’m not sure if I can get them working the way I want. If I do, I’ll let you know.

Finally, for those who might want to see what this whole deal looks like but who don’t currently have access, here are some sample screenshots to satisfy your curiosity:

Here’s the main Lexington album, which contains sub-albums for categories:
Sample Lendables City Page
Here’s one of the category pages, which contains individual items, each of which is marked with an owner:

Here’s a sample item page, which includes a description about the item and/or its uses:

Blog accessibility October 1, 2007

Posted by jpayne in : infra , add a comment

I hope not to start a trend of posting for every Wordpress plugin or theme we install on blogs.sackheads.org, but I just wanted to point out that by activating the iWPhone plug-in, it will automatically format your blog into a iPhone/iPod-touch friendly page (and leave your current theme in place for non-geeky readers).

I’ve enabled it on this blog and my blog and I encourage others to enable it on their blogs.

Thanks!
