Posted by snadra in : Uncategorized, social , 1 comment so farEven though it’s technically been around a while, my laziness and the temporary blog outage this year have contributed to my failure to announce to you all that we now have… “Lendables”
A new album has been added to the sack gallery called Lendables. This album contains photos of things that people own that are particularly likely to be borrowed by others. In other words, suppose you need a chafing dish for a party, but you don’t know who has one you can borrow? Or suppose you just got a new tile saw and are willing to loan it out to anyone who might need it? Lendables is the place that can let you do just that.
Since you probably only want to borrow from someone in your city, the main Lendables album is sub-divided into city albums. We have currently only set up Lexington, but we can easily create albums for any city with enough interest. Just ask snadra.
As a further security measure, the albums are all protected and are only viewable if you 1) are logged in and 2) have been granted access. This was done in order to avoid having Web strangers know of all the goodies that are sitting in your garage. Initial access has been given to some folks who we thought would use it… more access can easily be granted. Again, just ask snadra.
Once you get into an album to view its contents, you’ll see that items are grouped by category (ex: “Tools”, “Toys and Games”, and “Party supplies”). If you don’t see a category for what you need, feel free to create it. Please be sure to identify yourself as owner of the item and give a brief description of it. If you have any questions or problems… well, ask snadra 
BATV - no more invalid bounces August 29, 2007

As many of the sack friends and family are aware, spammers like to forge legitimate domains in their spam runs which can cause massive amounts of blowback (spam bounced by the recipients, with the bounces going to the forgery victim).
This is where BATV comes to the rescue. BATV is a means of ensuring that you only receive bounces of emails that you actually sent.
The implementation of BATV on the sack infrastructure can best be described as “crowbar’d in”. This means that unless you send your mail through haybaler (via port 25 or 587 - NOT via /usr/sbin/sendmail) you will not get ANY bounces at all.
I’ll just take this opportunity to remind you about the mail relay configuration document on the Wiki.
baconhouse rides again! August 27, 2007
Posted by scromp in : infra , 1 comment so farAfter a good long vacation, baconhouse has been rehomed in Lexington, KY at the Blue One / Openworld NOC. Thanks to Adam R. for the long and heftily-piped stay at Telehouse!
So the blogs (obviously), gallery, and all the rest are back and working, along with a number of upgrades that are complete and some others yet to come.

Our semi-planned events are:
*Sunday, August 5th - Early Morning golf - Golf course and time suggestions
welcome.
*Sunday, August 5th - Cook out at the Fouts House - 5:30 Dinner is on. Come earlier to hang out. We can take turns blowing up the pool and tossing the kids in.
*Tuesday, August 7th - Baseball game in Cincy - Dodgers @ Reds 7:10pm. Tickets will be purchased on July 2nd! Please let me know by July 1st if you want to sit with us. Seating areas are of course open for discussion. Otherwise I will rely on Whitaker’s suggestions to pick an area.
Day of shopping has been called off. Sorry girls.

I didn’t get any shots of the birthday water gun / rapids ambush but you can probably get there with imagination. I thought the snake was a copperhead, but after some intertubing, think it was just one of these. Mean, but not poisonous.

Posted by scromp in : infra , add a commentAfter a good long (and cheap) run at 25 Broadway, NYC, we are sadly forced to find a new home for baconhouse. This is going to happen, uh, rather soon. Like next week, probably. This move will involve a shipping company, which means the outage will last for several days at least, and it will affect the gallery, the wiki, the blogs, VPN connections, and some other things. IRC will have some burps but will recover, and DNS should be mainly unaffected.
Will post again if more details are available, but … you might not see it, since this is hosted there too.

I feel like we need a more central place to keep track of goings-on in general, summits, parties, outages, plans changing, life events, mario kart ds championships, and so on. IRC can be so fragmented and randomly attended to that it does little to actually communicate these kinds of things, so we’ll post them here.
This blog is intended to gather all these kinds of things together in one place that people can subscribe to with an RSS reader, and anyone with a blogs.sackheads.org id is free to post here. Just ask me to add you (and send me your id..)
