You were lonely and sick, but your tail never stopped wagging. I was immediately in love and knew I couldn’t leave there without you. You and I got out of there and stopped at the drive-thru for a burger. I wondered if you had ever done that before.

I watched you meet your foster mom and your new dog friends. You were so happy to have attention and kissed everyone. We knew that you were a good girl and that we were lucky to have you in our rescue. I wondered if you had ever gotten to run around in a backyard before that day.

I watched you at adoption events as people passed right by you. Some of them were actually scared of you and thought you looked “too much like a Pit Bull”. They wanted someone “cuter”. It’s not your fault that your ears were cropped too short. I always thought you were beautiful. I wondered why people couldn’t see that.

I watched as you went on your first home visit. He was a nice guy, but I wanted more for you. My heart told me to keep waiting for your perfect home, but my head told me to let you go. I wanted to do what was best for you, so I listened to my heart. I wondered if I had made the right choice.

I watched as weeks turned into months. Then we met them. We went to their house and you looked as if you had always lived there. They were in love and you were home. I wondered how long it would be before you ended up snuggling on the couch.

I watched as you walked away, tail still wagging, on your first walk in your new neighborhood. I thought about how long it took to get there and how patiently you waited. I wondered if you knew how much we loved you. I think you do.
