I am not sure what exactly caused the problem, but the first sign of pain I can remember was after 3 days of intense debugging on a high focus project that’s behind schedule. Not being able to get up from the chair at the end of the day is a sure sign of sitting for too long, and of a chair that is no longer providing proper support.
I started with the massage treatment, but after the second session my back locked up 3 times while trying to leave their office to the point where all I could do is drop to my knees. They recommended that I see a chiropractor, who would have more training and be able to pinpoint the cause, not just treat the symptoms.
I’d never been a believer in chiropractors. Most people that I know who get “adjustments” end up needing even more “adjustments” and a vicious cycle begins. Our next door neighbour being the only one not to have to continually need “adjustments”, I used his recommendation after not being able to get out of bed one morning.
As it turns out, I had torn 5 to 6 layers of the ligaments around a disc. Massages and rest alone weren’t going to heal this injury quickly. The chiropractor used a physio machine to stimulate muscle growth, and stretched my legs and lower back. No “adjustments”.
While I am now feeling better, am mobile, and able to sit for longer periods, I have fallen quite behind with everything. During the six weeks of pain, I haven’t been able to take any pictures, getting into positions other than sort of standing was impossible. No zooomr favourite markings, blog entries, Xbox playing or coding anything other than my day job.
Hopefully now that I’m feeling better I can start to get back into these things.
