Yorkshire Puddings! October 23, 2006

Posted by jpayne in : Food , trackback

After introducing Melissa’s family to Real Mustard and Real Beer, I decided to get even more adventurous and make some Yorkshire Puddings.  Out of laziness (or just not wanting to screw an entire meal up), we opened some cans of beef stew to serve with the puddings.

After a momentary panic of “I can’t remember the ratios!” I found a recipe specifically for American ingredients .  Whilst I forgot to take pictures, the results were….

… not that bad.  I used a little too much oil in the preheating stage, I overfilled the batter, both combined to leave us with a smokey kitchen and yorkshire puddings that were a little heavier than I was hoping for.  I’m definately going to practise and also find some tins for making giant puddings!

I loved using the fat from a roast beef or lamb - next time I make puddings it’ll be with a roast.   I also had to keep yelling not to open the door as curiousity got the better of Melissa’s folks :)

Did they rise? I’ve never managed to get Yorkshire Puddings to rise.

Give me a shout next time and I’ll ship you out some Aunt Bessies from Sainsbury’s ;-)

Have you introduced them to Welsh Cakes yet?

Scotty! Yep, they rose (almost too far)…

Melissa tried Welsh Cakes at St Fagins when we visited. I made a mince pie (big one :) for Christmas, and was planning on making buffers, but ran out of time :( Soon though!

Faggots.

When they can eat Faggots they can be considered cultured.
